We recently bid farewell to the Pack n' Play. Collin was just getting way to big for it. Plus it was setup in our front living room. Not a very convenient or good-lookin' spot for it to be. All this meant moving Asher to his "big boy bed". I did my best to create a cute, inviting room for him. We bought a Costco knock-off of these bunk beds & this sheeting. We continued his normal bedtime routine, tucked him in and hoped for the best. For over two hours, Asher tried the following tactics to avoid sleep:
Get out of bed to chuck books, diapers, clothes out the door.
Make loud, funny noises.
Cry.
Come out of room repeatedly, only to have mom/dad carry me back to bed.
You see, Nate and I were trying the Super Nanny approach- everytime he would get out of bed, we would quietly put him back. Kisses, a few "I love you's" and shut the door. When this seemed to not be working, I went and sat by his bed- staring straight ahead...maybe he just needed to know someone was there?? Wrong. Instead he tried putting his fingers up my nose, offering me his beloved pacifiers (how very sweet, but that won't persuade me!)...I quickly gave up on that idea.
We knew he was giving up when he would open the door & just stare at us like, "are we gonna do this? come put me back in bed..." Finally, after 2+ hours, it was quiet. Asher had fallen asleep. Wow. And now mom & dad are ready for bed too because that was exhausting.
Honestly, the hardest part of that evening wasn't putting our footed-pj clad son back in his bed, but trying NOT TO LAUGH at all the stuff he was doing to avoid sleep.
Asher is just so dang cute. I'm happy to report that (most days) he goes to sleep no problem.
A big boy bed. What a huge milestone. He really is growing up too fast...

Tyler didn't leave his room for the first week he was in his big boy bed. And then it began! So, he now has a childproof thing on the inside door knob of his door. It does the trick. He still gets out of bed. sometimes the entire thing of wipes is emptied in the morning, or there are toys all over, and he'll frequently knock on the door and call for us, and we usually have to go in sometime during the night to move him from the floor to his bed, but he at least stays in his room and is typically okay with it.
Doesn't it make you just a little bit sad though to have your first baby in a big bed? It did for me!
Your bunk beds and sheeting look so cute! So...you have moved Collin to a crib? We have Nolan in a pack n' play right now and I've been wondering when the time should come to move him to a crib (we still haven't even bought a crib) How did you decide to move Collin?
The things I have to look forward to...
I'm glad yall can laugh at it - I hope I can when it's Ava's turn for her big girl bed.
I'd find it hard not to laugh if Katherine stuck her finger up my nose too! Glad he's getting used to it.
big boy bed!!!! no way! I can hardly believe he is old enough! :)
