ear tubes

After 6 months of chronic ear infections and fluid that has never left his ears, Asher got ear tubes in this last Wednesday at Phoenix Childrens Hospital. Not only were Nate and I concerned about his hearing & speech development (we were told by his ENT that it's like trying to listen to things under water), but we also ended up in the ER 2 weeks ago with his temp over 105 due to a severe double ear infection and viral pneumonia. THAT was by far my scariest parenting moment to date...Asher was fire engine red...Tylenol and Motrin seemed to have little/no effect on his fever...his hands and feet were purple, he was crying uncontrollably and having trouble breathing...it was bad.

The surgery was quick and went well! (Thanks for keeping us company Scott!) Asher was a bit miserable for about 30 minutes after coming out of anesthesia, but that was to be expected. He's been running around & very happy since. We've even gone to the pool a few times! (His doctor said bathing/swimming are totally fine.)

Hangin' out with Ronald McDonald before surgery...Wow Nate, you and the clown look a bit too friendly.

The prep room...

Back at home- the gang all cozied-up on the couch...

Oh Asher!!! Poor little guy!! I'm glad it's all done for now! How long does he have to keep the tubes in for? And that 105 temp!!! OHHHH!! That would scare me too for sure!!!

We have the cuttest and bravest little guy out there. He gets it from his mom.

I'm so glad you guys decided to do the tubes. Katherine just had her 6 week check up and doc said they look great. Even better she hasn't had another ear infection, even though she had a head cold a few weeks back! Hope Asher has the same luck.

This brings back lots of memories - Dylan got tubes at 13 months. Hard decision but good decision! He felt so much better after and I'm sure Asher did too. We were also worried about the underwater thing too. Hopefully you're done with 105 degrees and the ER!

I'm so glad everything worked out well for you with his tubes. That is so scary, I freak out every time one of my kids gets a fever. You just never know how bad they can be. He's so cute and honestly, I deal with the cooking mess each and every day as well. At least you're ok with cleaning it up. I freak out on my kids. I hate cleaning up messes!!
