chef boy-r-squirrels

4PM. The hardest part of my day. I'm trying to straighten up & get dinner ready for Nate coming home...I'm tired- Asher's tired. Asher loves to cook/watch us cook and prefers to be held while I'm trying to get everything ready. Obviously that doesn't work out very well, so I've had to get a bit creative.
First we try just having him sit on the counter and watch...but then he starts to pull things out of cupboards (yesterday it was a small box of ground black pepper that dumped all over). Then I stick him in front of the open fridge or pantry, but after he's pulled everything off the shelves that are within arms-reach he's bored and fussy again. So finally, I will grab a mixing bowl, some cooking utensils and a handful of dry oats and let Asher "cook" on the floor next to mommy. He LOVES it! Oatmeal ends up everywhere, but it's quick to sweep up and we're both happy!

What a great idea! Katherine is the same way, wants to see what we're doing. I put her on the counter a lot, or sit on the floor with a cutting board when chopping etc so she can be part of the process.

Look at the look on his face in the last cooking picture....total happiness!
