the resurrected anniversary gift

I have a slight obsession with cotton candy. I have been known to drive to a local carnival for the sole purpose of buying a bag of the sweet stuff. It's kind of my crack. Nate, being a thoughtful gift giver, decided that a commercial-grade cotton candy machine would make the perfect gift for our 5th Anniversary. "Absoultely not!" I declared. There were LOTS of other things I would want to do with that money, and as much as I would love it, it really wasn't a financially prudent decision.
Well apparently FRIDAY was the day for insane purchases, because, Ladies & Gents, I am now the proud owner of the Gold Medal Mega Floss Cotton Candy machine! And this time, it was my idea to buy the thing. Maybe it was the fact that at least twice/week I drive down to the gas station to buy a bag of the stuff. Or maybe it was all my neighbors having birthday parties & talking about cute cotton candy party favors. Or maybe it was all the kids with their lemonade stands & me thinking that my boys would be so cool with a cotton candy stand. Either way, it's a done deal. And while I'm a bit sheepish about telling people about it, I'm soooo excited!! 446 bags and I can break even! Woo hoo!

ANYWAY, it's a little late, but I wanted to share a snip-it from one of my most favorite gifts of all:
Interviews the boys did with Nate about me on this last Mother's Day. I was literally LOL'ing when I read them. (and the pictures are from my Mother's Day banana parfait dessert):

Dad: Hi Asher
Asher: Hi Bambi's Dad
Dad: Did you know today is Mother's Day?
Asher: Uh huh.
Dad: What's your favorite thing about Mom?
Asher: He's so strong
Dad: Who is?
Asher: Bambi's Mom!
Dad: You mean SHE's so strong.
(Asher sticks a screwdriver in Dad's mouth)
Dad: Don't do that, that's dangerous to put a screwdriver in someone's mouth.
(Asher sticks screwdriver into Dad's ankle)
Dad: OK, moving on, does Mom take care of you?
Asher: Like a baby.
Dad: That's nice, huh?
Asher: Yeah, let's go see her!
(Runs upstairs while Mom is trying to sleep-in)
END OF INTERVIEW

Dad: Hi Collin.
Collin: Hi! You did it!
Dad: What did I do?
Collin: It's the Scary Lions!
Dad: Where?
Collin: Over there! (He points dramatically behind Dad)
Dad: Uh oh, we had better be careful. What's your favorite thing about Mom?
Collin: Mommy.
Dad: What's your favorite thing?
Collin: Mommy!
Dad: Mom's your favorite thing?
Collin: Mother, Dad! (emphasis on Dad)
Collin: Asher's scary!
Dad: Asher's scary?
Collin: No, superheroes are scary.
Dad: Oh, ok. Collin do you love Mom?
Collin: Yeah. (commence jibber jabber) It's a shark.
Dad: Collin, what do you want me to write down for Mom?
Collin: Cookies.
END OF INTERVIEW

Seth: Hello Father.
Dad: Hello Seth.
Seth: It is very thoughtful and kind of you to write this momento for our Mother. In general, you are a very thoughtful patriarch of our family
Dad: Thanks Seth.
Seth: I would like to say our Mother is the most wonderful nurturer I can possibly imagine. She is kind and thoughtful, not to mention loving, and she makes our life full of laughter and light.
Dad: Very nicely put. Is there anything else you would like to say?
Seth: No.
Dad: Are you sure?
Seth: Yeah, I'm a baby, what do you want? Now go get me some milk!

That's classic. I had similar conversation with my girls on Father's day. Another year or two out I think :)

Ha Ha Ha! I love reading your blog, Cortney! I always find myself cracking up. And, I wish I would have known that you liked cotton candy so much because we have a cotton candy machine...it doesn't make a whole lot at a time, but it does the trick! You could have just come over instead of running to the gas station all the time!
