Last Wednesday was Asher's surgery to have his tonsils & adenoids removed, as well as some new tubes put in. Here are some pictures from that morning. I thought to bring a portable DVD player, which was genius of me :), because it kept him distracted right up until they brought him some warm blankets & wheel his bed away. As a result of the hospial experience, Asher associates warm blankets with getting poked..poor buddy. The surgery lasted about an hour. The Dr. told us that Asher's tonsils were very badly scarred, filled with pockets of puss & therefore a little more challenging to remove. He asked us if Asher had had lots of strep or constant sore throats- to our knowledge he hadn't had much of either...but maybe he has always had throat issues and just thought it was normal?? He also told us that Asher's adenoids were some of the largest he had seen in a kid this age. CRAZY! We thought it was funny that Tessa was sad we didn't ask to save his tonsils & adenoids for her to look at...hehe!
Anyway, it took Asher a while to calm down when they brought him to us- effects of the aenesthesia no doubt. We were given strict instructions on his diet & activity level & warned that it would be normal for him to be drowsy for the remainder of the day. By early afternoon, I swear you would never have known that he had had surgery...we had to try (unsuccessfully) to keep him from running all over the house.
The few days following that were extremely rough. Asher was just completely miserable. I am so grateful my parents came to help us (they arrived the night before surgery)- in fact, just saying that feels like a HUGE understatement. Asher wanted no one but his Grandma- she nick-named him her "right hip growth". :) They made the entire experience so much easier.
And, for the record, my buggie, my feisty little ham...he kept us all smiling...

Poor little guy. Glad your parents were there. They look like such great grandparents!
Interesting enough, HD has sore throats all the time (nearly once a month) and has strep once, but no talk of taking out her tonsils. I'm still trying to decide how I feel about that.
Poor guy! I hope it helps him though!!!! And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! How exciting. Can't wait to read what it is!! Happy days!!!
