About one week ago I went on a great trip to Colorado for Memorial Day weekend. Notice I said "I" and not "we". It was my first trip away from my babies! It did me good. However, I began missing Nate & Asher & Collin within the first 24 hours I was gone. And try as I might, I wasn't able to sleep-in past 7:15am. haha! It was so nice to spend time with my family. And I feel grateful to family in Utah who helped take care of the boys while I was gone.
I rested, went on some great photo shoots, finished reading Jane Eyre, visited DSW, played games with my fam, met with an amazing naturopath who has started me on meds to treat hypothyroidism & progesterone deficiency, AND I participated in my first ever 10K race- the Bolder Boulder...it was wonderful! (All of those things were made possible by my incredibly generous parents...thanks mom & dad!)
The Bolder Boulder has to be the coolest race ever. I had such a good time- it was actually an enjoyable experience! They had bands every tenth of a mile, people racing in fun costumes (at one point I was behind some Avatars), people cheering you along the entire way, folks in front of their houses spraying you down, frat boys offering "jungle juice"..haha! You don't even have to run unless you want to...I mean, there were three-year-olds walking the race. The BEST part is that you finish the race by entering UC Boulder stadium to bleachers full of cheering crowds. This year over 50,000 participated in the race. They feed you lunch, put special tags on your shoes so you can check your times online afterwards, vendors hand out all kinds of free goodies...Anyway, once all the "citizens" were done, they started the pros. You know, the people from Ethiopia & Kenya who can run 4 minute-miles like it's no big deal. :) The short but sweet Memorial service they held to honor the military was very touching. I had the overwhelming feeling that the nation we live in is both chosen & blessed. We are quite lucky to live here!
Here we are before:
And after, sweaty but so happy:
Good times, good times.
