HELP.

I love this picture. It helps to remind me that even my busy little Asher is still so innocent and precious. I have had to look at that picture a lot today. Here is why...

About a month ago, Asher started sticking his hands down the back of his diaper whenever he would do a #2. It didn't happen all the time, but at least a few times a week. Nate and I have tried everything we can think of to stop him from doing this. Taking away privileges, smacking his bum or hand, yelling (I'm not proud about that), getting on eye level & explaining sweetly, praising him when he doesn't do it, etc. He hates the clean-up part of the process...scrubbing his hands/face/hair/body, cleaning under his nails...

Last night Asher came into our bedroom around 3am. He was crying. I let him climb into bed next to me. As I wrapped my arms around him, I could both feel and smell the poop. Nate was sweet and took him downstairs to clean him up. When I heard Asher sobbing, I went down to see if I could help. Here is what we figure happened: Sometime around 10pm Asher must have pooped and dug his hands in. He got it everywhere. Sheets, blankets, pillows, pj's, & himself. Then he fell asleep in it. Then it dried to him.
I stripped the bed, Nate took a shower with him. He couldn't stop crying. Poor baby. We gave him lots of love and put him back to bed.

This morning he did it again. This time it happened while he was playing, so I not only had him to cleanup, but toys to disinfect.

Just now we were playing in the backyard and he must have discovered some cat poop. (our neighbors have a cat that likes to hang out in our yard. I try to look out for the stuff, but I must have missed this pile.) Again, back inside for cleanup & lecture.

I am at a loss...I don't know what to do. Someone at church mentioned onesies to me which seemed like a great idea, but I have yet to find onesies in size 3T. Have any of you ever had this problem? Any suggestions? I am desperate for advice.

We have kept some kids in onsies for an added time for similar reasons...but never had to go bigger than 24 mo, so I hope you can find some 3t ones. It will FOR SURE help, it certainly did with us. During a certain, take my diaper off phase, we would NEVER put one of our kids to bed without a onsie! I'm sorry! and good luck!

Oh Cortney! I couln't decide whether to laugh or feel really bad for you. So, I did both. I'm so sorry! How frustrating. I wonder what excites him about poop. I have no suggestions, but if you find something that works let me know so I can prevent it with Braelyn!

Yuck yuck yuck! Katherine went through this stage too, thankfully I was usually at work so I only had to hear about it :)

We found keeping a very close eye on her was the only thing that helped. As soon as she'd poop we'd change her before she had a chance to play with it. We also worked really hard on getting her to tell us when she went poop. Still working on that one, she won't volunteer the info. Not sure what to do about the night though, I think the onsie idea is a winner.

So sorry I don't have an advice, but the onies sound like a good idea.

Glad you had a great Easter - I know I have told you I love your photos before but you do such a good job of capturing the moment...I should take a class, but I kinda doubt my skills even w a class.

So....out of curiosty I googled "kids eating thier poop", "Kids digging into their own poop", etc., and you are definitly not alone! I read tons of comments, blogs, etc. from other frustrated mothers dealing with the same problem.
None of you kids ever did that growing up, but I had 2 voracious biters - drove me nuts! 2 voracious biters and lots of unsolicited advice(none of it worked either).
Onsies and over-alls sound like a good idea.
XXXOOO Mom B.
p.s......inspite of it all - Asher is such a doll, and such a tender-hearted sweetie!
