Collin (aka Squeaks) turned 4 months old yesterday! Wow! He is growing like a weed and is perfectly plump in all the right places. He is strong too- he often wakes up cooing loudly & pushes up on his arms, smiling & waiting for someone to come get him. It' so dang cute! He can grasp objects & has pulled his play gym down on himself several times. We think he might be teething 'cause our little man drools like crazy and chomps down on anything within reach (usually his own fingers). In case anyone cares to know, breastfeeding still continues to go well!
As you can see, I decided to start Collin on solids. I remember telling myself to wait until 5/6 months to do this, but my desperation for sleep convinced me to start now. Collin usually does a 5 hour stretch at night, followed by two shorter stretches after that. I would like to see that first stretch reach the 8 hour mark. Not really sure what to do...advice would be greatly appreciated! Check the comments section for a more detailed description of his current sleep habits & then advice accordingly. Thanks!
Words cannot express how much I love my little squeakies. Like Asher, he is a wonderful cuddler. Nate has described him as "a jolly old soul." No matter how exhausted I am in the middle of the night, his smiles never fail to light up my soul.

OK- here's the scoop:
we're trying to get Collin to sleep from 7PM-7AM. He wakes up at 12AM & 3AM for feedings (and sometimes more often than that!). During the day, he can usually stand to be awake for 1hr&a half before he needs a 1-2 hour nap. Usually one of those naps is in his swing. I do try to cluster feed around bedtime & try to top hin off with formula, but Collin is a bit of a snacker. (During the day I feed him when he wakes up from naps & before going down again.) We have let him cry himself to sleep when needed, so I'm not opposed to that. We have a white noise machine going in his room.... not sure what else to do! HELP!!
I think each kid is so different- Dallin is now sleeping from about midnight to 5 or 6, except last night was a bit longer. The only thing that I've noticed about him is that he is awake for a long time (about 9-12) and eats about every hour. THen he seems to be pretty good for a while. I only nurse on one side though for those three feedings, but it gets a bit tiring. By the end I'm ready to do anything to get him to sleep. However, all that time up lets me catch up on our DVR'ed stuff! =) So, just be patient I guess. If your cluster feeding around bed time and topping him off right before hand I don't know what else to tell ya. Just thought I'd write a long, not so helpful comment I guess! =)
cuddle bugs must be a boy thing... my boy cuddles way more than my girls ever did. he is just adorable!! as far as the sleeping thing, i bet as soon as he gets used to solids he will one night surprise you and sleep a long stretch. good luck.
I remember with Katheirne someone telling me that although she may want to eat she doesn't need to eat in the middle of the night (she's wasn't starving, just used to it). It's up to you if you want to get up to feed him or let him cry it out. Maybe try t midnight, let him cry it out and see if he'll go back to sleep. Then when he wakes up a few hours later (hopefully) feed him then? He just has to get used to not getting to eat in the middle of the night. It worked really well for Katherine, good luck!
Oh he is so darling. That little smile just lights up his face! I am sorry your not getting very much sleep. I guess we kinda block that part out as they get older...I am not looking forward to that! -I need my sleep. But he is just so dang cute, it makes it worth it!
You take the most amazing pictures! What a cutie and i love his nickname, squeekers. I never really figured out the sleeping thing I just trial and errored until one day they were sleeping. Good luck!
Wow, he's so big and so cute! I can't believe how much he and Asher look alike!
Do you think he's really hungry when he wakes up at night or it's just a habit? My breastfed babies (even after solids) were truly hungry during the night at 4 months. I would try waking him up and feeding him before you go to bed at night and then getting up with him once during the night to feed---no more than that. That way he still gets his 2 feedings in and you only have to get up once.
