changes

This past week has brought lots of changes...
No matter your political views, things will be different with Obama around- good (economy, environment, foreign relations) AND bad (moral decline, socialized medicine), I think. Nate and I were more excited about Prop 102 (the AZ equiv. of Prop 8 in CA) passing- which it did! Yea! We stood at the local polls for about three hours holding signs supporting the marriage prop and offering more info to people who wanted it. It was neat to feel involved in a good cause. We watched CNN intently Tuesday night as Obama became our President-elect. I couldn't shake the strong feeling that things were going to be happening...that Nate and I needed to make sure that we prepare our little family for what may lie ahead. SO! Our food storage doubled! :) Asher helped me organize it. As I was moving bags of rice around the cupboards, several little moth looking bugs kept flying out. "That's wierd..." I thought. Then I happened to look down at a bag of rice we had bought a month ago at Wal-Mart and saw that the rice was moving. Holy crap. I wanted to vomit. There were larva in there! I started panicking...I called Nate, my mom, my mother-in-law..."What the heck are these things?!" Meal moths. Most likely they were already IN the rice when I bought it and now they had infested...who knows...they feed off cereals, pasta, grain, rice, etc. Soooo gross.

Sadly, I tossed over $100 in food, keeping only canned goods. I wanted to cry. I vacuumed and disinfected the ENTIRE kitchen until my knuckles were cracked and bleeding.

OK! On a lighter note, the weather has changed once again! Temps are in the 60's and 70's during the day, which meant that Asher and I have been spending lots of time at the wonderful park across the street. The poor kid acted like he had never seen grass before. haha!!

GRASS!!! That is a novelty in AZ. He looks like he's getting use to the feel...kinda. Just watch out for the fire ants - Cort, when you were about Ashers age you crawled into a fire ant mound, and by the time I picked you up you had about 50 on each leg stinging you! Obviously you survived ;-) but you cried for hours & I felt like a "bad" mom.
XXXOOO Mom B.

My friend just had the same moth and egg issue in her pantry! She did the same thing, had to throw away everything. Katherine is enthralled with the fridge too, I wonder if it's the cold or lights? Or maybe just all the breakable items they can't wait to get their little hands on :)

Good job on your food storage - sorry you had to throw all of it away!! Truly yucky.

I love Asher in the totally weird grass.

Love your darling boy and the videos. I'm so thrilled that you three are such a happy family. So sorry about the moths. We have them too. They also move into bedrooms and lay eggs in clothing so kill every one you find. Mostly you should call an exterminator. They are the hardest pest to get rid of, literally.
